Keep AI app users coming back after day one, and see what usage really earns

AI apps get a burst of signups who try it once, credits that run out mid-task and revenue that moves with usage. Atlis counts usage in your MRR, emails people before their credits run out, thanks them when they top up, and shows how many never came back after their first day.

What does an AI app need from a retention tool?

Three things most SaaS tools miss: revenue that includes usage-based and credit charges, not only fixed plans; a moment to reach people before their credits run out; and a way to see the share of signups who used the product on only one day. Atlis does all three from your Stripe or Paddle webhook and the tracking snippet, next to the onboarding, inactivity and payment emails every SaaS needs.

The problem

Why do AI app users drop off?

  • They try it once

A launch or a viral post brings people who test one prompt and leave. Insights shows your one-day users: people who signed up 8 to 28 days ago and used it on only one day.

  • Credits run out mid-task

Hitting zero in the middle of work feels like a wall. A Stripe usage alert or your own credits_low event starts a top-up email while they still have some left.

  • Usage revenue goes unseen

Plan-only MRR misses what metered and tiered prices earn. Atlis adds each subscription's usage from its latest paid Stripe invoice, so MRR follows real usage.

  • One-time buyers never return

A credit pack is a purchase, not a plan. The Credits Purchased email thanks them, sends them back to work and suggests a plan to people who keep topping up.

How Atlis helps

How does Atlis work for AI apps?

  1. 1

    Connect Stripe or Paddle

Paste one webhook. Subscriptions, failed payments and cancellations arrive on their own; with Stripe, also select the checkout and usage alert events for credit packs and low balances.

  2. 2

    Add the snippet

Page views and your own events give every user a health score, a stage and their active days, which is what one-day users and Usage Dropped are built from.

  3. 3

    Switch on the credit workflows

Credits Running Low and Credits Purchased come with ready-written emails and follow-ups that stop once they top up or upgrade.

  4. 4

    Watch usage and day-two return

Revenue shows usage moving MRR as expansion or contraction, and the Weekly Pulse shows your one-day users each week, so you see whether more people come back after day one.

What changes

What changes when Atlis runs your AI app's lifecycle?

  • MRR you can trust

Fixed plans plus usage from paid invoices, with a bigger or smaller usage bill shown as expansion or contraction, and credit packs counted as cash collected.

  • Fewer hard stops

People hear from you before they run out, and the workflow card counts how many topped up within 14 days.

  • More come back after day one

One-day users in Insights and the Pulse show whether your activation emails are working, week by week.

01

Does Atlis count usage-based pricing in MRR?

Yes, with Stripe. For subscriptions with metered or tiered prices, Atlis counts the fixed prices and adds what usage cost on the latest paid invoice, per month. Each new invoice replaces the usage part. It needs only invoice.paid, which the Stripe setup already selects. Paddle subscriptions count their fixed prices.

02

How do I email users when their credits are low?

Create a usage alert in Stripe Billing and select billing.alert.triggered in your Stripe webhook, or send a credits_low event from your app when someone's balance drops. Switch on the Credits Running Low workflow and it sends from your own mailbox.

03

Can Atlis tell when someone buys a credit pack?

Yes. A paid one-time Stripe Checkout (checkout.session.completed) or a Paddle transaction without a subscription becomes credits_purchased, with the amount and the pack and credits from your metadata. You can also send it from your app.

04

What are one-day users?

People who signed up 8 to 28 days ago and used your product on only one day. Insights shows the share under Retention by signup week once at least 5 people are in that group, and the Weekly Pulse includes it.

05

Does Atlis run AI on my data?

No. Atlis doesn't provide AI or see your prompts. If you want help writing emails or asking questions about your numbers, you can connect your own AI provider key, and only the numbers that question needs are sent to it.
